Dr. Tony
Fernandez inaugurated Westend Eye Hospital in Nov. 1997. Dr.
Davis J. Akkara, then Chief Ophthalmologist of Lourdes
Hospital, Kochi and his wife, Dr. Ethamma Davis who was
earlier working in Lourdes Hospital were in charge of the
services of the Westend Eye Hospital.
The hospital has two divisions:
- The Op section at High Court Jn, Banerji road.
- The Surgical wing with Op facility near Vimalalayam at Kacheripady Junction, Chitoor Road.
The Hospital is so situated that it is easily acessble by rail, road and sea.
The Hospital is equipped with state of the art equipments for patient care. |

Dr. Davis J. Akkara had his
Basic Medical Training in St. Johns Medical College,
Bangalore, India. He did his Postgraduation in Ophthalmology
from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. He was awarded the
Best Outgoing Student Gold medal From KMC, Mangalore. Later he
went to the USA for training in Refractive Surgery (Operation
in Short sight) and Phacoemulsification for cataract.
He worked in Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly and Medical
Mission Hospital, Kolencherry and was involved in Free Eye
camps. He took over as the head of the department of Lourdes
Hospital, Kochi in 1991.
His area of interest in Ophthalmology is the anterior segment
of the eye. His favourite operations are Phacoemulsification
for cataract, LASIK (LASER treatment) for shortsight, Squint
and Glaucoma operations. |

Dr. Ethamma Davis had her
Basic Medical training in Medicine from Medical College,
Kottayam, India. She did her Post graduation in Ophthalmology
from VS Institute of Postgraduate studies, Ahmedabad, India.
She worked in the Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly and Lourdes
Hospital, Kochi, before she started Westend Eye Hospital. | |
